Warm floors Vs forced air heatingRadiant heating system is the commonly used way of heating the floor nowadays in which the heating elements are placed under the flooring. These systems offer more convenience than the forcing air heating system.Warm floor is the simplest system available which can be easily repaired with available components. These are the systems which have only one or two moving pumps (hydronic parts). Significant developments and innovations have taken place over the period of time in this field.
In forced air heating system, the forced air baseboard and the registers are located outside between the walls and the windows. So, the heated air gets in contact with the air outside walls and windows which results in higher heat loss from the surface. Moreover, forced air heating takes too long to adjust to the thermostat changes and it happens due to the thermal mass of concrete. The radiant systems offer advantages like: it is cost saving which is a direct result of greater efficiency. With this advantage, one can save their utility bills up to 30%. This system offers more comfort than the forced heating system since the heat emits uniformly across the floor and cold spots are eliminated however in the forced heating system, the heat is emitted to two or more locations in the room and then it is diffused in the remaining parts of the room. Therefore, it makes few parts warmer than the other parts. The warm flooring system is cheaper than the other systems. Economy of scale is applied in this context too, as the cost per square foot increases, cost of the system would go down and these systems are lighter in weight and it responds quickly to the thermostat changes. In forced air heating, the warm air goes up to the ceiling where it does no good. With warm floor heating system one can ensure that heat is maintained where required.
